How Do SSRI Affect Teenagers

SSRI has been widely used in medical fronts for its efficacy to bring the ‘feel good’ moods in depressed patients. SSRI antidepressant helps gives the body a serotonin boost which eventually takes away the hypnosis for depression.

SSRI Medications

SSRI drugs have dominated the market for quite some time with its large among adults. This is reasonable enough since adults have to manage stress levels to survive the humdrums of everyday life. Here’s the catch; SSRI how common is hypnosis for depression drugs have been quite effective for a serotonin boost in adults and managing the depression levels as a result. The big puzzle is whether the same results can be recorded in teenagers.

SSRI Information

The SSRI information drawn from the research is rather disappointing; SSRI drugs do the exact opposite on teens. Instead of managing the mental disorders of teenage patients to which the drug was induced, the drug actually caused major psychiatric adverse effect. The assumption was SSRI would be a normal antidepressant among teens as it is among adults.

The case study begs to differ though; one of the highlights of the SSRI information collected was that 74% of the teenagers who were tested on SSRI recorded adverse effects like mental distress, severe hallucinations and increased irritability. More results established showed that apart from the said problems, over 35% of the teenagers who were put on the medication exhibited interrupted sleep patterns worse than before. This is quite ironic; while SSRI calm the adult to sleep on one side it makes the teenager more aggressive and sleepless on the other.

SSRI Effects

Why the SSRI effects came out this way is yet to be known. Both adults and teenagers are human beings so the postulation is the same serotonin boost should occur in either of them. But the worst of SSRI information is yet to be released. A major shocker released recently showed that some teenagers erupted into violent fits upon taking SSRI. The agitation levels rose to self destructive levels; teenagers resulted to self induced injuries and on a worse case suicidal.

The results clearly show that SSRI effects on teenagers are a catastrophe. But despite the negative feedback from the results, SSRI drugs are still used in juvenile mental wards to treat demented teens. A big slap comes from institutions that govern the use of these drugs on teen kids; they continue to approve their use despite the negative results being crystal clear.

The negative SSRI effects show that the drug should be banned from Juvenile mental facilities. An alternative to the SSRI’s is the new natural anti-depressant namely 5-hydroxytryptophan. 5-HTP is an amino acid and more of a food supplement than a drug. Use of the natural anti-depressant has brought forth successful results with fewer negatives. 5-HTP has been proved as completely safe for all ages and can even be administered without the necessity of medical supervision.

Use of a natural antidepressant is thus safer than the SSRI drugs. Fewer people have recorded side effects of 5-HTP and those who have only complained of mild side effects.
