MDMA Effects On Memory

MDMA (3, 4-methylenedioxy-N-methylaphetamine) is also known as ecstasy or molly. It is man-made drug that causes stimulant and consciousness expanding effect. This drug was manufactured in Germany as an appetite suppressant but now a day’s people use this drug to make sensible and to feel less inhibited. Mostly people use this drug as energetic effect to dance for hours in parties and nightclubs. Most users of this drug are teenagers or adults.

MDMA Effects

The effects of MDMA vary due to different reasons and it can be helpful or harmful to human body. The factors include how much drug is taken, how frequent it affects the brain and also depend upon the size or mass of human body.

The effects caused by this drug can last for 4 to 6 hours but it is variable depending upon the potency of tablet. Using this drug can cause depression, sleeplessness, anxiety, teeth clenching, blurred vision, memory loss, dehydration, hyperthermia and many more. Depression disorders are often associated with chemical changes in neurotransmitter of brain. Serotonin is important neurotransmitter is often correlated with depression. It controls many functions such as emotions, hunger, mood and overall attitude. So depression is cured by Natural Antidepressants.

MDMA Use

MDMA use can damage brain cells called serotonin axons causing bad effect to memory, appetite and emotions. This club drug becomes a reason for retrograde amnesia that makes difficulty for persons to memorize the events.

Long-Term Effects of MDMA is classified into two classes. First is, serotonergic changes and second is behavioral problems. This drug cause long lasting changes in neurons that make serotonin. So this chemical helps to transmit messages to and fro along the nerves in our body. Use of ecstasy decreases learning, memory and concentration abilities. It may disturb decision making power. If mood of victim is disturbed then he/she will lose concentration for events. The victim will not memorize the situation that what is happening around him. Then his/her memory will be affected due to use of this drug. So it affects working memory, selective attention and associative memory.

Serotonin

Serotonin and vasoconstrictor are released heavily during MDMA exposure, which may decrease cerebral blood flow. So decreased cerebral blood flow is directly related to brain regions causing memory loss. Due to this drug, involuntary reactions are slowed down. It happens by delaying the messages through neurons. It is difficult for a victim to concentrate on things and victim will take a much time to complete simple tasks. The user feels his mind blank and unable to memorize things and lectures. At last, as concentration is lost then victim gets bored easily with a task and bounce to the next task, leaving the incomplete tasks. So organizing and completing task proves troublesome for him.

Focusing and conscious attention for learning is extremely difficult for a victim. Sometimes the victim gets lost in other people conversations, when people talk to him directly. At that time he got confused and depressed. Depression is a condition when the victim feels as an empty mind, loss of energy and lack of interest in socializing the life.
