In the world of supplement takers, Sam-E is the latest one on the horizon. Sam-E is the common name for S-Adenosyl methionine. It is both produced and consumed by the liver and so has not been studied much even though it’s existence was first discovered in 1952.
Sam-E Information
Sam-E do people abuse tricyclic antidepressants helps out in more than 40 metabolic processes, but is considered a non essential enzyme because it is synthesized by the body itself. Lately however with more and more research being conducted into mood disorders it has been found that an increase in the amount of homocysteine has been associated with both mood disorders as well as cardiovascular diseases.
This homocysteine is one of the end products that are formed from Sam-E and when homocysteine is used by the body, it is combined with Vitamin B12 to once again form methionine which in turn is just a form of Sam-E.
Sam-E Supplement
As of now there have been no beneficial effects that have been associated with increasing the intake of Sam-E SNRI as a supplement. In fact although the increase of homocysteine has been found to correlate with many diseases, reducing its levels by taking supplements have not been found to reverse this damage.
With more and more Sam-E information now coming out we find that there are a number of Sam-E side effects that were not known of before. For example some of the Sam-E side effects are things like dryness of the mouth, constipation, sweating etc. There are a number of other supplements like natural antidepressant ones for instance that give the same kind of side effects.
Sam-E Side Effects
The difference is that beyond this there are others that have been found to be potentially fatal Sam-E side effects. For example taking Sam-E along with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors would be potentially fatal because of the double increase in the levels of serotonin in the body.
There is also other Sam-E information that if sufficient Vitamin B12 is not included as part of the diet the full benefit of Sam-E would not be there. This is because the production and use of methionine is a cycle with vitamin B12 helping to complete this life cycle.
One of the other serious Sam-E side effects is insomnia. Many doctors who think that Sam-E is safe in smaller doses as a natural antidepressant recommend that it be taken in the mornings to neutralize this effect.
Sam-E is being researched into very carefully because of its use by the body in such a large number of processes. Yet it is because of this that full and complete Sam-E information is not available.
While there is a lot of information about Sam-E, this information is still not complete and therefore its use needs to be regulated. As of now however it is being sold over the counter as a supplement like any other natural antidepressant.
Because of its potential risks it is better if you check up on Sam-E before you start using it. There are a number of medicines that are incompatible with its use and some of the combinations can even prove fatal.
