Ecstasy is normally the term used for a chemical substance MDMA. Now a days a variety of drugs are sold under the name of ecstasy. These may include substances related to MDMA, like MDA or MDEA. Other substances which are sold under ecstasy name are ketamine, amphetamines, caffeine, DXM and many more. MDMA information includes that it increases the amount of neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. Effect of this drug lasts for about 24 hours and taking more doses of MDMA causes negative effects than positive effects. MDMA does not cause physical dependence but people may think that they are psychologically addicted to this drug. People with pre-existing medical problems such as liver disorders, kidney diseases, high blood pressure and mental diseases should avoid MDMA.
MDMA Effects
MDMA cause alternation of perception, thoughts and mood thus acts as natural antidepressant. It is a synthetic drug manufactured by a German pharmaceutical company in early twentieth century for the treatment of obesity. But later on it was used as hallucinogenic drug allowing its user to feel relax. It is available in the form of tablets in the market. Mostly it is used by teenagers from middle to upper class. It is less expensive making it attractive for its user. MDMA is used by a small group of people known as raves. They mostly spend there time in parties and dancing. The effect of MDMA last for 4 to 6 hours depending upon its effectiveness.
MDMA should never be used during energy drinks because of increased stimulation effects. Then promoting the excretion of urine and preventing body to store water, causing dehydration in body. There are psychological effects, physical effects and after effects of this drug. Heavy users of this drug have “electric shock sensations”. MDMA has different effects over time such as: Onset remains 20-90 minutes, coming up remains 5-20 minutes; MDMA comedown remains 1-2 hours and after effects remains 3-24 hours.

It is illegal under Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and rated as Schedule I-substance. Many countries follow this act and prohibited this drug because it can be dangerous due to lack of content control. Ingredients are hard to get and mixing with other harmful additives during manufacture of this drug. Common “drug test kits” are used to testify the purity of this drug. But it is difficult to measure the toxicity, symptoms and consequences so that’s why it is banned all over the world except some countries including Portugal and Amsterdam decriminalized all drugs a decade ago. However decriminalization does not mean to legalize the use of drug. It is only allowed to use in small quantity for personal use. Keeping excess amount of MDMA or other drugs is considered to be illegal. Presently countries like USA and Israel are trying to prove the effectiveness of MDMA for the scientific research. MDMA facts should be kept in mind that it is a dangerous drug. It can cause sleeplessness, anxiety, jaw clenching, blurred vision, memory loss, dehydration and many more disorders. So MDMA should remain illegal to use.
