Melancholia is an ancient Greek word that means sadness. Melancholia is better known as melancholic depression. It is a condition characterized by severe mood swings and episodes of extreme grief. Its sufferers fail to find happiness in even positive events happening around them and stay gloomy over long periods. Dealing With Melancholia A person undergoing melancholia will not be very active or enthusiastic. He will feel sad and low for no apparent reason.
