How Do SSRI’s Work

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRI, in the pharmaceutical market, have long been used to treat depression for their therapeutic effect on the body. SSRI forms one of the earliest anti-depressant used for treating anxiety, mood swings and depression. SSRI is not a natural anti-depressant like tryptophan, it is clinically manufactured and dl-phenylalanine. It works by basically modifying the synaptic availability of Serotonin which is a brain neurotransmitter responsible for sleep induction, lowering depression and curing anxiety. The SSRI contribute to a serotonin boost by blocking the vital proteins that transport the released serotonin cells back to the pre-synaptic cells were they originate from. This trapping of serotonin creates a large pool in the brain raising synaptic levels in the brain and eventually creating a temporary serotonin boost in the brain. This stage is marked by acute anxiety from the patient taking the SSRI drugs. The excess serotonin in the brain is the result of the anxiety. This however does not occur for longer periods. The brain responds to the high serotonin levels by activating the postsynaptic 5-HT receptors to regulate the high serotonin levels. This may take a few days in which the patient would record decreased anxiety levels. SSRI Uses When the serotonin levels are being leveled down to control the serotonin boost in the brain, another protein known as the 5-HT1 receptor begins to desensitize and how effective is hypnosis for depression. The 5-HT1’s receptors function by blocking the brain from producing more serotonins. With the 5-HT1 ...

What Are SSRI

SSRI is the name of a class of antidepressants that are designed to combat the effects of depression, anxiety and other personality disorders. SSRI actually stands for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and this is exactly what they do. They inhibit the absorption process of serotonin into the brain, environmental causes of depression, and, therefore, the patient gets to feel a serotonin boost, which, otherwise, would not have been experienced. Even if they play such a great role in using the reserve of natural antidepressant the brain has, SSRIs are not without side effects. The following SSRI information contains both the ups and downs of using this type of medication. SSRI effects on serotonin metabolism Serotonin is considered to be the best natural antidepressant and for good reasons. As long as serotonin production and metabolism are kept in good working order, one will experience sensations of well being, will sleep well, eat well, and generally will do anything they like without feeling extreme fatigue or irritability. However, when a depression episode occurs, a serotonin boost is not a bad thing. This can be granted by SSRI medicines that can inhibit the process of reuptake of serotonin stupor depression into the brain. As they do that, the natural antidepressant remains in a brain area known as the synaptic cleft. As long as the serotonin is kept captive this way, the person taking SSRI medication will feel less depressed. This is the most important of SSRI effects on serotonin metabolism and the main ...
