The major symptom of unipolar depression is a sad mood that would not just go away. Though a lot of people usually go through a period of sadness where they feel really sad; but a person that is diagnosed with the effects of unipolar depression experiences low or sad feelings which gradually build-up over a couple of days or even weeks. These people are typically unable to “get over their sadness” even when a positive thing happens.
